In 2022, the maternal mortality rate (MMR) in the U.S. was 22 deaths per 100,000 live births. This rate is notably higher compared to many other developed countries. Black women in the U.S. experience a significantly higher MMR, with a rate of 49.5 deaths per 100,000 live births. This figure is more than double the overall U.S. rate and highlights a stark racial disparity in maternal health outcomes. These disparities reflect underlying issues related to access to quality healthcare, socio-economic factors, systemic biases within the healthcare system, and disparities in health outcomes based on race and ethnicity. This powerful discussion, moderated by Nada O. Hanafi, MSc, MPH, Founder, MedTech Strategic Advisors, LLC and Co-Founder, MedTech Color, will highlight how addressing these disparities is crucial to improving maternal health outcomes for all women in the United States.
