Karen Daniela Perdomo completed the DxD Pathways in Health Technology program as part of the inaugural cohort in 2023, and leveraged that experience into a summer internship at an innovative Bay Area healthtech startup. Recently, she shared how DxD’s program and her summer experience have set her on a new career path.
DXD Pathways in Health Technology program was an enriching and educational experience that gave me the opportunity to get immersed and involved in the healthtech field, create a large network of collaborative people, and have support and guidance to my next future career steps.
As a driven engineering student with a passion for problem solving, and eager to contribute to improving people’s quality of life, I refer to the DxD Pathways program as the start point of my career path. Before my participation in the program, my knowledge of how an engineer contributes in the health industry was limited, but as soon as I got into it, I discovered engineering plays an important and significant role, which highly motivated me to dig more into the field, and look for an Internship position. DXD was key during each part of my internship searching process, and it definitely helped me to get the position by practicing and focusing on my strengths, as well as giving me tips and advice on how to excel.
Today, I’m happy to say that I’m working on the development, inspection, assembly, testing and related documentation of Zuno Medical’s Smart Sterilization Container as a Medical Device Engineer Intern at Zuno Medical where I interact the most with bioengineers and mechanical engineers. The possibility of contributing to the improvement of sterile processing and allowing for the best in patient care is my favorite part of working at Zuno Medical. Everyday, I learn and I’m exposed to new areas/processes which allows me to grow professionally expanding my set skills. I will keep learning and exploring the different roles an engineer can play in the industry, and after I figure this out I will pursue my master’s in that expertise.
Without any question, DxD Pathways in Health Technology program opened doors for me, and it continues giving me support, even after the program has finished, by equipping me with tools and an empowered mindset.
